Alyson Hannigan took birth in Washington DC. His mother is named Emilie Posner, a real estate agent, and her father Al Hannigan is a truck driver. Alyson is of Jewish ancestry on her maternal side and is of Irish descent on her paternal side. After only one year of her birth, her parents got divorced. She went along with her mother who raised her in Atlanta.

In 1978, when she was just four years old, Hannigan appeared in an industrial film for “Active Parenting” as a baby. She also starred in a commercial for Duncan Hines cookie mix. All this was performed not so seriously, ultimately in 1985, she moved to Los Angeles, California and decided to become an actress. Alyson Hannigan joined North Hollywood High School. She next joined California State University, Northridge.

In 1988, Hannigan appeared in ‘My Stepmother Is an Alien’, a science fiction comedy. In 1989, she became a part of ABC sitcom ‘Free Spirit’. Throughout most of the early-1990s, she appeared in several commercials. In 1997, Hannigan appeared as Willow Rosenberg on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. Her excellent acting on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, brought her tons of recognition and success. She next got roles on ‘American Pie’, ‘American Pie 2′, ‘Boys and Girls’, and ‘American Wedding’. Hannigan earned $250,000 salary for each episode of ‘Buffy the vampire Slayer’. She made a guest appearance on the ‘Buffy’s spin-off, ‘Angel’, and reprised the same role.

In early 2004, Hannigan made her West End debut. She starred in the stage adaptation of When Harry Met Sally… at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

In 2005, Hannigan returned to star in a regular television series, ‘How I Met Your Mother’, portraying the character of Lily. She also made a recurring guest role on Veronica Mars and played the part of Trina Echolls. In February 2006, Hannigan appeared in ‘Date Movie’ portraying Julia Jones.

Hannigan had been dating Ginger Fish of Marilyn Manson. She got married to Alexis Denisof, a very successful actor. They both own a house together in Santa Monica, California. Hannigan is pregnant with her first child, due in 2009.
